CC News: BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) personnel have detained 56 people at Benapole border while they were returning to Bangladesh after an illegal trip to India.
A BGB patrol at the Benapole Checkpost near Sadipur border area detained them around 9:30pm Sunday.
Lt Colonel Jahangir Hossain of Jessore 26 BGB Battalion said, out of the detained, 28 were men, 16 female, nine children, and three Hijras.
“All of the detained are Bangladeshi nationals. They worked in different parts of India. Agents in India took money from the detained, promising them to help cross the border.
“Sensing the presence of the BGB personnel they fled leaving the Bangladeshis behind,” he said.
The detained were transferred to the Benapole Port Police Station the same night.
A case has been filed against them for trespassing, said OC Apurba Hasan.
