CCNEWS: The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday near Shekhertek Road-3 at Adabor, police said.
Injured Irin Parveen Daina, 30, is a senior officer at the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB).
Her right hand was almost severed from the elbow due to the ferocious blows, said the medical officer at Shyamoli’s Elite Clinic.
She also suffered several deep slash wounds on her left hand and one on the right shoulder, the doctor said after she was taken there.
Adabar Police Station Sub-inspector Ismail Majumder also confirmed bdnews24.com that several muggers had hacked Daina with machetes.
A local, ‘Enamul’, had rushed her to a nearby hospital first from where she was shifted to that clinic.
Later, she was moved to Samorita Hospital for better treatment.
Her friend bdnews24.com’s Sub-Editor Tanjir Rahman said Daina, a member of Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club (BMTC), was scheduled to go to Sirajganj on a short trip with other club members.
Quoting witness Enamul, he said, “A group of teenagers, not more than 15 years of age and all carrying machetes, first snatched her mobile phones around 5:20am when she came out on the street.
“She resisted when they tried to snatch her bag. The snatchers hacked her indiscriminately and fled the scene right away.”
He said Diana’s family had lodged a complaint with the Adabar police over the matter.
Tanjir said he saw another injured at Elite Clinic’s emergency ward with similar injuries.
The man’s family said he was hacked with machetes and mugged by a similar group of young miscreants at Shekhertek.
Police, however, could not confirm whether the same group carried out both attacks.
