Bangladesh stumble after Pakistan 557/8d

Tamim1430990095Bangladesh lost five quick wickets of Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah and Mushfiuqr Rahim after Pakistan declared their first innings at 557/8 in the second and final Test of the two match series in Dhaka on Thursday.

The hosts put only 107 runs on the scoreboard for five wickets, trailed by 450 runs at the end of Day 2 at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Opener Tamim Iqbal, who hit a double hundred in the previous match in Khulna, was LBW in the 4th delivery of the innings off Junaid Khan.

Mominul (13) was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed behind the stumps off Junaid Khan in the 9th over.

Opener Imrul kayes was bowled by Yasir Shah in the second delivery of 18th over leaving Bangladesh in batting disorder. New batsman Shakib Al Hasan was fortunate to be dropped by Younis Khan at first slip in the very next delivery.

Mahmudullah was beaten by a bouncer from Wahab Riaz in the 21st over. He scored 28 runs hitting 4 boundaries.

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (12) was the last batsman to be bowled by Yasir Shah in the last delivery of the day. With Mushfiqur’s departure, stumps were called in 27.5 overs.

Bangladesh were 107/5 with Shakib unbeaten on 14. Bangladesh need another 251 to avoid follow-on.

Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan claimed 2 wickets for 26 while spinner Yasir Shah bagged more 2 for 15 runs in 5.5 overs. Wahab Riaz picked up the other wicket.

Earlier, during the Tea break, Pakistan declared their first innings scoring 557 runs for 8 wickets. They started the day with 323/3 and added 234 runs more in the first two sessions of Day 2 losing 5 wickets.

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan struck and bowled Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (9) in the fourth delivery of second over of the day.

However, Pakistan’s Azhar Ali who were unbeaten on 127 at the end of the first day on Wednesday, bagged his maiden double century to put a huge total on the scoreboard.

Azhar reached his double hundred with an over boundary off Shakib in the 139th over.

However, Bangladesh spinner Shuvagata Hom picked up the wickets of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq in two consecutive overs.

The 30-year right hand batsman was caught by Mahmudullha off Shuvagata Hom in the 147th over scoring 226 runs hitting 20 fours and 2 sixes.

Azhar made 207-run partnership with Asad Shafiq in the fifth wicket.

Shafiq also bagged his sixth Test hundred. He was also caught by Mahmudullha off Shuvagata in his next over adding more 7 runs.

Later in the last over of session 2, Taijul Islam dismissed Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah.

Tajul bowled 51 overs and claimed three wickets for 179 runs while Mohammad Shahid and Shuvagata shared 2 wickets each. The other wicket went to Shakib Al Hasan.

Pakistan ended the first day on Wednesday putting 323 runs on the scoreboard for three wickets as Younis Khan and Azhar Ali smashed centuries.

The first Test of the two-match series was a draw in Khulna.
